Ivan is not at all well at the moment and has asked me to update his blog. He is conscious of the fact that there are many who follow his blog who are concerned because he hasn't posted anything for a while.
At present Ivan is back in Liverpool Royal Hospital. His myeloma is back with a vengeance and the staff are presently trying to get his platelet levels up. His illness is making him very tired and lethargic and has had an effect on his speech. A couple of days ago he couldn't speak at all and this was very frustrating as you could see that he knew what he wanted to say but the voice wouldn't work. I saw him today and his speech is much better (I won't tell you what he called me!) suffice to say that his tremendous sense of humour is still there.
I hope you will keep up your comments - I will make sure they are passed on to him. Your support and prayers are a tremendous boost for him. Keep checking the blog - between us Ivan & I will keep you up to date.

ReplyDeleteGlad to see your sense of humour is still strong, I bet Mike took advantage of you not being able to talk. Glad you got your speech back to give as good back.
I am walking 13 miles on Saturday night for Cancer Research, so will be thinking of you every step of the way. When my feet hurt and my body aches - you will be my inspiration to continue and finish it!
I'll let you know how much money the 4 of us raise in total, so far with all of our sponsor money together, it's looking very healthy at near to £1,000. But I'll keep nagging everyone, including Mike who can go to Just Giving and type in Joanne Reilly and donate!!

Hi Ivan, As you're obviously able to check up on your ghostwriter(!) it sounds as though you can see the blog from your phone on the ward and can hopefully therefore read my comment too!Hurray for technology! ReplyDeleteHi Ivan, what a thought you not being able to speak!I've known you for how many years and that is definitely a first... The Co-Op would have loved that to happen when you used to man the switchboard for them, hm. Take advantage of your illness now and keep everyone running round for you, you could always count on the sympathy vote in the past. Do you think you'll be fit enough to do a couple of hours canvassing in the run up to the election, I'll put your name down just in case. Counting down now to going to Cyprus next Tuesday but will continue to check the blog each day, so don't let me down Mike.

ReplyDeleteGetting through this illness is very much about physical, mental and spiritual stamina and you, Ivan, seem to have been blessed with an abundance of them all. Having lots of really first class friends and a most excellent wife go a long way as well (check out the blog, they're with you every inch of the way).
I'm very pleased you can still be rude to Mick, someone has to do it. Show no mercy, it'll make you feel so very much better! He's got broad shoulders.
I've sent you, via Averil, a few thoughts for next month's Parish Matters. Please let me know what you think.
Remember to keep smiling, don't pull out your IV line and try to get some rest in there (some hope, I dare say). I also hope they let you eat chocolate occasionally.

Thank-you Mike for being Ivan's secretary! So pleased the Blogg is being updated. That tractor cruet was really good to see the first, even the second time, but by the 14th!!!!!! We just want to know how you are Ivan to direct our prayers and thoughts in the right direction.

Hi Ivan, sorry to hear you are back in hospital but I know you are a fighter and you always remain positive during these challenging moments. Keep battling mate, you'll win in the end. Town can't afford to do without you on the terraces (they do need all the support they can get!), especially when next season will see them promoted to the Unibond Premier and reach the 1st round proper of the FA Cup.

Ivan - Im so used to updating face book and this blog that they are first things i go on when i sign on the computer - Mick's good at updating the blog, but not as good as you!!!!
