Another Update

Hi Everyone

First of all many thanks from Ivan for all the tremendous messages of support that you have sent him. He is still in Liverpool Royal on Ward 7Y and continuing to get great medical support from all of the staff there. The doctors have told him that the myeloma is presently very aggressive. One of the consequences of this is that he has had some bleeding in his head that is putting pressure on his brain. This is making it difficult for him to speak and also making him very sleepy.

Having said that we are still getting some great one liners - they are just a bit slower than usual! He still manages to charm the nurses, especially the young pretty ones. They often leave the room with a smile or a giggle. I try to tell them that I taught him all he knows - but it's not working!

Ivan has access to his blog from his hospital bed but I'm not sure how often he is looking at it. When I visit this afternoon I will read out all of your comments. Please keep them coming.

Mick/Mike (I really must try and sort out who I am!)

  7. Well thats about rite - no matter how ill - men still manage to chat up young pretty girls - Ivan I was going to say you are a one off - but in hindsight!!!!

Ivan you have inspired me in so many ways - your courage/dignity and sense of humour is legendary!!

If the love that is generated in this blog from your friends could get you well again you would be doing somersaults down peter street now!! (doesnt that sound like an americanism!!!)

I know Mick/Mike (suppose it depends what mood he is in as to what name he uses - I can only call him Mr Jackson!!!lol) will read this out to you, so you know how much im praying and cheering you on.

    Be comfortable my friend xxxxxx

    Luv to Ave/Jess/Joyce

  8. Hi Ivan
Good to hear that you are still charming the staff!
I was listening to the radio last night and they were talking about the best and worst children's cartoons. It was a great trip down memory lane, remember Crystal Tips and Alastair, Wacky Races, Top Cat, Fred Bassett, Ivor the Engine, Rhubarb and Custard, He-Man?!! I think my favourite has to be The Wombles! What's your favourite?
Keep smiling Ivan and charming the staff.
    Thanks Mick/Mike for the updates.
Lots of love Mozz and Richard X

  11. Hi Ivan

There's no escape from me even in hospital, it seems!

Averil has done a great job of keeping me updated on your medical adventures. I know you have had a pretty rough time but that's why they provide the lovely nurses for you. By the way I'm not sure how Mick managed to get himself enrolled on the staff but then he always was a sweet talker!

I hope you're managing to avoid all the Election hype in there. I've written to all our Prospective Parliamentary Candidates asking them (on behalf of Christian Aid) what their parties will do about climate change and international poverty. So far I have only heard from the Lib Dem candidate who says she agrees with me (I'm not quite sure what sort of promise that is!). For whom should I vote, I can't see much cheer from any of them?

At least Spurs beat Arsenal last night & the World has abundant supplies of chocolate; things can't be that bad.

Try not to behave yourself too much while you're poorly, too much excitement will probably do you a lot of good.

Remember, I'm with you in spirit all the way.

  15. Lovely to see you today Ivan, even if you pulled some cheeky faces at me and managed to smile at Farzana! Like I said to you today and Kate above has said, you are an inspiration! You will be my inspiration on Saturday night for my walk for caner research - your name will be big and bold on my t-shirt (none of your cheeky comments about it's position on there please, it'll be on the back!!)and like you told me today 'Just get on and do it!'. When my legs tire, I'll picture you and the fabulous care you've had in hospital and I'll walk on! (If anyone reading this wants to donate to cancer research, search Just Giving and type in my name - Joanne Reilly - it's as easy as that and thanks)
I'll also make sure I get a print out of a City badge ready for victory on Saturday - hopefully! I feel a trip to Europe in the Champions League coming on (I can see you pulling yet another face while you're reading this).
Take care and thanks for making us laugh today (Farzana thought you were so sweet and innocent! Ha! Yeah right!). I wonder whether Mike has heard she kissed you tonight - he'll be very jealous! xx
